Yoga Reduces Anxiety in Teenagers
If you're in your teens, you know that you can feel anxious at times. But if you've been diagnosed with PCOS, or have menstrual and weight problems, your anxiety, stress and unhappiness can really increase.
Even adults with PCOS are known to feel anxious and depressed. So this is not necessarily a temporary thing.
Here's an easy way to reduce your anxiety...and maybe have some fun and meet new friends.
SVYASA University in India studied ninety teenagers (ages 15-18) who had PCOS and were divided into two groups. The first group took a yoga class for 30 minutes a day for 3 months. The second group did physical exercise for 1 hour a day for 3 months.
Compared to the exercise group, the yoga group had a better reduction of their anxiety.
So -- regardless of your age -- if you're freaking out about the strange things your body is doing to you, or feel too embarrassed to exercise, why not try something that can calm your mind as you move your body?
Try yoga or Tai Chi.
Gaining control over PCOS is very much a mental game. How you think and feel has a direct effect on your body and behavior. If you feel anxious or stressed, your good judgment is impaired, plus it produces unhealthy hormones that lead to further symptoms.
It's super-important that you calm your mind. A calmer mind helps to create a healthier body.
Use yoga or Tai Chi to form a better connection between your body and your mind. You'll be glad you did!
